Two Children Seriously Injured In Bossier Parish Crash
Bossier Parish – Earlier today, a crash involving a small motorized scooter seriously injured two children.
Troopers responded to the crash around 11:10 a.m., which occurred on Hanover Street at Creole Street in Rosedale Subdivision. The crash involved a Razor MX 500 (motorized scooter), driven by a female child (7 yrs) of Bossier City, LA and a Acura ATL, driven by Lisa H. Barnette (W/F 48 yrs) of Bossier City, LA. The electric scooter was northbound on Creole Street when the female child failed to stop at the stop sign. This action resulted in the westbound Acura, which was being driven on Hanover Street, colliding with the scooter.
The female child received serious injuries and was transported to LSU Medical Center in Shreveport, LA for treatment. Her passenger, identified as a male child (5 yrs) received severe injuries and was transported to LSU Medical Center. Neither child was wearing a helmet and both were ejected.
Barnette was wearing her seatbelt and was not injured.
Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation.
The public is reminded that it is dangerous and illegal to operate certain types of motorized scooters/dirt bikes (electric or gas) that are intended for children to use and operate and that are not intended/manufactured for roadway use on any public roadway in this state. Also, it is dangerous and illegal to operate any off-road vehicle (i.e. three-wheelers, four-wheelers, and other all-terrain vehicles) on any public roadway in this state. Any vehicle, operated in Louisiana, must first be registered and the driver must have a valid driver’s license. With regards to any bicycle used on a public roadway, public bicycle path, or other public right-of-way, no parent, guardian, or person with legal responsibility, for the safety and welfare of a child, shall knowingly allow any child under the age of twelve to operate or ride as a passenger on a bicycle without wearing an approved helmet of good fit fastened securely upon the head with the straps of the helmet.
