Suspect arrested in 2-month-old shooting
Shreveport Police Department
Authorities have captured a suspect wanted in connection with a shooting that injured a local man two months ago in east Shreveport.
Back on April 7, Shreveport police responded to the 200 block of East 78th Street in reference to reports of a man having been shot while at another location.
At the scene, officers met with the shooting victim, identified as 23-year-old Tyrel Diggs of Shreveport. An investigation revealed that Diggs was at A.B. Palmer Park when a dispute erupted between him and another man believed to be known by him.
During the dispute, Diggs indicated that the suspect produced a handgun and shot him in the leg. Diggs received a minor injury and was treated on the scene for his injury.
During an ongoing investigation, Shreveport police violent-crimes detectives gathered information linking 32-yearold Rodriguez Smith of Shreveport to the crime.
Authorities secured a warrant for Smith, charging him with illegal use of a weapon.
Smith was taken into custody last Thursday evening, June 20, while in the parking lot of a convenience store located at the intersection of East 70th Street and Southern Avenue.
He was booked into the Shreveport City Jail.
