This has been a tremendous year for Bossier City’s Little League teams.

“This is the first year ever that we’ve had teams advance to regionals,” said Little League President David Szwak. The league’s two 12U teams for 11– and 12-year-olds — boys’ baseball and girls’ softball — have both won district and state championships and advanced to the regional championships.

Szwak said that the girls’ team has already played in the regional championship, but lost out to New Mexico 5-4 on Sunday after playing in an overtime game.

The boys’ baseball team will play in the Southwest Regional Playoffs in Waco, Texas, through Aug. 7.

To help pay for the youths’ trip to the championships, a fund-raising luncheon will be held Tuesday at noon at Shelby Lane’s Closet in the 1600 block of Swan Lake Road. The event is open to the public.

Bossier City Mayor Lorenz Walker will be on hand to present a proclamation honoring the local Little League All-Star team, which is representing the state of Louisiana at the regional playoffs.

If the local boys’ team is successful, they will be the first Bossier City team to advance to compete for the title of Little League World Champions in Williamsport, Pa.
