Motorcycle crash claims life of Shreveport man
Authorities have identified a Shreveport man who died following a motorcycle crash overnight in east Shreveport.
On Saturday August 17, 2013, a Shreveport Police patrol supervisor observed a group of motorcycles driving carelessly near the intersection of Shreveport-Barksdale Highway at Dee Street. Upon observing the actions of the cyclists, the officer initiated his police vehicle’s emergency lights and audible siren in efforts to conduct a traffic stop of one of the motorcyclists observed accelerating from the scene heading south bound onto Knight Street. The officers attempt to stop the motorcycle came to naught, as the driver successfully accelerated beyond the officer's visual contact. It was learned soon after the officers visual of the motorcycle was lost, he observed what appeared to be remnants of a crash near the dead end portion of Preston Avenue. Upon the officer's inspection, the driver of a motorcycle was discovered laying on the ground. Roadway evidence collected at the scene suggests the motorcycle driver crashed into a dead end sign located in the 1000 block of Preston Avenue. The driver of the motorcycle, identified as 30 year old Lonnie Davis of Shreveport, was transported to LSUHSC with serious injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital a short time later. Davis is thought to be the suspected driver of the motorcycle observed by the officer moments prior to the crash.
Shreveport Police Crash investigators arrived on scene launching an investigation into the crash. While no exact cause of the accident has been established, Crash investigators believe that speed may have been a causative factor in the crash as they continue their probe into the events surrounding the accident.
