Young Marines donations —

The Bossier Sheriff’s Young Marines program received two separate donations recently. (Left photo) Disabled Veterans of Louisiana Chapter 1 of Shreveport/Bossier donated $5,000 to Bossier Sheriff Julian Whittington on Tuesday. At the check presentation were (from left) Bill Lane, Posse member and retired Air Force; Hank Haney; Lloyd Boley; Mike Cox; Sheriff Whittington; Lloyd Helms, DVL adjutant and retired Air Force; Jim Roat; and John Courter, DVL commander and retired Army. The sheriff’s office, which hosts the youth program, was denied federal grant funding earlier this year when Sheriff Whittington refused to remove voluntary prayer and God from the program. Estess, president of the Sons of Italy Heritage Club, and club member Digilormo coordinated the “In god We Trust” fish fry fund-raiser to support the youth program on Sept. 11 at the City Tele-Coin Company in Bossier City.
