Juvenile arrested for having gun on school bus
Shreveport Police Department
A Shreveport teenager found himself behind bars following an alleged gun incident aboard a school bus last Friday afternoon, Sept. 20.
Just after 3:30 p.m., Shreveport police were called to the 3500 block of Hearne Avenue in reference to reports of a handgun recovered on a school bus.
The driver of the Caddo Parish school bus reported that a student fled from the bus after a semi-automatic .380 handgun was found inside the student’s backpack. The weapon, which was not loaded, was reportedly discovered after the backpack fell to the floor of the bus and was retrieved by the bus driver.
The 14-year-old juvenile, who is enrolled as a student at Linear Middle School, was one of five students on the bus at the time of the incident.
Upon the driver’s discovery of the weapon, the teen reportedly fled out the emergency exit at the rear of the bus and was last seen running on Hearne Avenue.
No students on the bus were injured.
Hours following the incident, the juvenile was taken into custody after authorities successfully made contact with the teen’s parents.
At this stage of the investigation, it is unclear why the youth was in possession of the firearm. However, he now faces charges of possession of a firearm by a juvenile, possession of a firearm in a firearm-free zone and possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number.
Authorities seized the weapon, and the teenager was booked into the Caddo Parish Juvenile Detention Center.
