The Louisiana Highway Safety Commission has awarded the Bossier City Police Department with a grant that will help make city streets and highways a little safer over the next year.

The police department has received a total of $40,842 to conduct additional enforcement operations that target impaired driving, seatbelt use and speeding now through September 2014. The grant will be used to fund saturation patrols as well as safety checkpoints during that time in an effort to reduce motor vehicle crashes and resulting deaths, injuries and property damage.
