Second suspect arrested for armed robberies
PRESS RELEASE Shreveport Police Department
A second suspect is now behind bars in connection with a pair of armed robberies that occurred last month.
On Dec. 29, Shreveport police were called to a reported armed robbery of an individual at an apartment complex located in the 8100 block of Pines Road.
When officers arrived, the 31- year-old male victim told them that he was returning home from work, when he exited the vehicle and was accosted by two men with coverings over their faces. One of the men, he said, was armed with a handgun.
According to the victim, one of the bandits robbed him of his cell phone and the keys to his vehicle.
Following the robbery, the suspects fled the scene in the victim’s 2001 Honda Accord sedan.
The victim was not injured during the ordeal.
On Dec. 30 at about 11:30 a.m., Shreveport police patrol officers, working off of information obtained during the robbery investigation, located the victim’s stolen sedan parked at a home located in the 900 block Whispering Lake Drive in north Shreveport.
After sitting idle in the driveway for several minutes, the car was approached by two men who exited the home. As the men tried to enter the car, they were quickly apprehended by police and taken into custody without incident.
The men were taken to police headquarters, where they were interviewed by investigators.
Following those interviews, information and evidence was gathered linking 22-year-old Christopher Kordelle Dumas to the crime. The second man who was detained for questioning was determined to have had no involvement in the incident.
Detectives later learned that Dumas was connected to a subsequent armed robbery that occurred on Dec. 29 in the 4900 block of Jewella Avenue, during which time a convenience store clerk was robbed at gunpoint by two suspects fitting similar physical descriptions of the suspects described in the previous robbery.
Police arrested Dumas and charged him with two counts of armed robbery for his alleged role in the incidents.
He was booked into the Shreveport City Jail and later transferred to the Caddo Correctional Center.
On Tuesday, the ongoing investigation led to the arrest of a second suspect, a 16-year-old male juvenile with alleged involvement in the two robberies.
Shreveport police detectives were able to gather information and evidence linking the juvenile to the robberies, thus solidifying a connection with Dumas, who remains incarcerated for his alleged role in both crimes.
The teen, whose name has not been released, was subsequently booked into the Caddo Parish Juvenile Detention Center, where he now faces two counts of armed robbery.
