Funeral arrangements set for former Bossier City Mayor

 Funeral services for former Bossier City mayor George Dement will take place Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Bossier, 2810 East Texas Street. Visitation will be held at the church from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, January 14, 2014 and from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on the day of the funeral. A graveside service will take place at Evergreen Cemetery in Frierson, Louisiana. The Bossier City Police Department, Bossier City Fire Department, Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Office and Bossier City Marshall’s Office will assist with the services and escort to the cemetery.

            Dement passed away on Sunday at the age of 91. He served four terms as mayor from 1989 until 2005.

            “I was saddened to hear of George’s passing,” said Bossier City Mayor Lorenz Walker who served as the city’s Chief Administrative Officer during Dement’s 16-year tenure and succeeded him as mayor in 2005. “George Dement served the citizens of Bossier City well. I was honored to serve with him during his four terms and will long cherish his friendship. His memory will continue to live on here at City Hall and his legacy will never fade.”
