62 pounds of pot found in traffic stop

A traffic stop in Bienville Parish Saturday morning led to the discovery of approximately 62 pounds of marijuana.

A trooper assigned to Louisiana State Police Troop G stopped a 2014 Ford F-150 for a traffic violation on Interstate 20 eastbound near mile marker 59 west of Arcadia in Bienville Parish.

The driver, 30-year-old Corey Samuel of Houston, Texas, gave consent to search the vehicle. During the search, troopers found approximately 62 pounds of marijuana with an approximate street value of $93,000.

Samuel was placed under arrest and charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and conspiracy to distribute marijuana.

A passenger in the vehicle, 42-year-old Kerry Taylor of Houston, Texas, was also placed under arrest and charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and conspiracy to distribute marijuana.

Samuel and Taylor were both booked into the Bienville Parish Jail.

If convicted, each suspect faces up to 30 years in prison and up to $150,000 in fines.
