Local woman killed in domestic dispute
A local man is behind bars in connection with a shooting that claimed the life of a woman in west Shreveport Monday night.
At about 9:20 p.m., Shreveport patrol officers responded to the 3600 block of Redbud Lane in reference to gunshots being fired in the area.
When officers arrived, a witness reported hearing a woman screaming and then at least one gunshot.
Officers immediately launched an investigation and subsequently discovered an adult female lying under the carport of a home located in the 3500 block of Valley View Drive.
The victim, later identified as 41-year-old Karen Johnson, was suffering from at least one gun shot wound to the upper body and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Detectives and crime scene investigators were immediately dispatched, and, based upon information and evidence gathered in the early stages of their inquiry, were able to develop 41- year-old Anton C. Cooley of the 600 block of Damaka Drive in Shreveport as a suspect.
Authorities believe Cooley and the victim were involved in an ongoing romantic relationship and Cooley shot the victim during the course of some sort of domestic dispute.
Within short order, a police detective received a tip regarding Cooley’s whereabouts and took him into custody without incident.
Police also recovered the weapon they believe was used to commit the crime.
Cooley was booked into the Shreveport City Jail on a charge of second-degree murder.
