Suspect taken into custody following standoff
A local man is in custody following a brief standoff with authorities Thursday morning in east Shreveport.
Shortly after 8 a.m., members of the Shreveport Police Department’s Warrants Unit arrived at a residence in the 200 block of East Elmwood Street for the purposes of executing a felony arrest warrant on a wanted fugitive.
The suspect, 27-year-old Aaron Duane Chrisman, was wanted in reference to an outstanding warrant charging him with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
When warrants officers arrived at the home, they were granted permission by the homeowner to enter. When they entered, they saw Chrisma, who eluded officers by running into the bathroom of the home.
Chrisman ignored orders to exit the bathroom and subsequently barricaded himself inside.
Because it was not certain if Chrisman had access to weapons, assistance from members of the department’s Special Response Team along with a police K-9 was requested.
Shortly after the arrival of additional resources, entry was made into the bathroom, where Chrisman was taken into custody.
He was treated on the scene by Shreveport Fire Department personnel for injuries resulting from a K-9 dog bite.
Health Medical Center. Upon his release from the hospital, he was booked into the Shreveport City No officers were injured. Following his arrest, Chrisman was transported to University Jail.
Chrisman faces additional charges for resisting arrest.
