SPD schedules Open House Career Day
The Shreveport Police Department invites the public to join fellow officers for its Open House Career Day.
The open house will be hosted at the Shreveport Regional Fire and Police Training Academy, located at 6440 Greenwood Road, on Saturday, May 10, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
It’s a unique opportunity for the public to meet police officers and learn about the duties and rewards that come with a career in law enforcement.
Police personnel from the recruiting office and other various career fields will be on hand to talk about and discuss certain requirements necessary to join the ranks. Displays of police equipment and other personnel from specialized units will also be on hand.
The Shreveport Police Department’s new DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) vehicle, a 2013 Ford Explorer, will also be on display.
The vehicle is outfitted with a body-wrap design which displays the nation’s colors and bears the departmental seal atop its hood.
While the DARE vehicle will not be used to make traffic stops, it is certain to turn the heads of those youths participating in the DARE program.
The vehicle will be piloted by the department’s five-member DARE instructors crew: Sgt. Jim my Ray, Cpl. Jennifer Stephenson, Cpl. Shawn Hurd, Cpl. Glentask Heckard and Cpl. Jason Jones.
For more information about the DARE program, call 673-7034 and ask to leave a message for Sgt. Alan Crump.
