Legislation signed allowing more options for defending home, business from intruders
On Tuesday, Gov. Bobby Jindal held a bill signing ceremony for HB 325 by Rep. Joseph Lopinto, which amends current law to allow for additional justifications of the use of force or violence as self-defense.
The bill adds the use of force or violence as justifiable when it is used to prevent a person from unlawfully entering a home, business or motor vehicle. It also allows the use of force or violence to compel an intruder to leave once he has entered, fixing a gap in the law that did not include justifiable use of force to remove an intruder where the end result was not death.
Gov. Jindal said, “I am proud to sign this bill into law, which gives our people more options to keep their loved ones safe in the event a dangerous intruder enters their home or business.”
