Man injured following early morning shooting
Shreveport police are investigating an early morning shooting that injured a man in west Shreveport.
Just after 5 a.m. Sunday, Shreveport police patrol officers were called to the 2600 block of Claiborne Avenue in reference to a shooting.
When officers arrived, contact was made with a male victim suffering a gunshot wound to the face. The man, whose injuries were considered to be non-life-threatening, was treated on scene by paramedics from the Shreveport Fire Department.
Violent-crimes investigators responded to the crime scene. Preliminary information was received indicating two men had been shot while in the parking lot
of the Cajun Inn motel. However, it was later learned that only one man, identified as 19 -year-old Javoria Sherman, had actu- ally sustained injury.
Authorities learned that the victim, along with another man, identified as Jamaria Manya Cornelious, were inside a vehicle parked at the Cajun Inn when a male armed with a shotgun reportedly opened fire in their direction.
It was during this time that Cornelious began to exchange fire with the shotgun-wielding suspect.
Following the exchange of gunfire, the unknown suspect fled the scene.
Authorities located and seized two weapons at the scene, both believed to have been used in the crime.
During their probe of the incident, investigators arrested Cornelious, charging him with a single count of illegal use of a weapon for his alleged role in the caper.
Cornelious was subsequently booked into the Shreveport City Jail.
As the investigation continues, detectives expect additional arrests to be made.
