SPD promotes three police officers
Police Chief Willie Shaw promoted three Shreveport police officers in a brief ceremony at Shreveport Police Department headquarters Tuesday morning.
Sgt. Brian K. Wheeler was promoted to lieutenant. He joined the department in November 1990.
Cpl. Jeffery A. Gilmour, who joined the department in September 1993, was promoted to sergeant.
Also promoted to sergeant was Cpl. Karl W. Hill, who joined SPD in August 1996.
After the officers received their new badges, Deputy Chief Duane Huddleston said, “Now, for the first time, especially on the sergeant level, you’re not responsible for only your actions, you’re responsible for other people who work for you. And the way you handle that is you correct, coach and counsel. That’s your job in a nutshell.”
Huddleston said that he and the three men who were just promoted have made mistakes over the years.
Their job now is to prevent new officers from making the same mistakes. “They benefit from your experience,” he said.
