Early morning shooting sends man to hospital

Shreveport police detectives are investigating an early morning shooting that seriously injured a local man.

Just after 4 a.m. Sunday, Shreveport patrol officers were dispatched to the emergency room of Willis-Knighton’s north location regarding a shooting victim.

When officers arrived, it was learned that Jerandom Upshaw, 19, had been taken to the hospital by private auto after reportedly being shot in the 3400 block of Palm Road.

Upshaw suffered a single gunshot wound to the head. He was transported from Willis-Knighton Medical Center to University Health Medical Center, where he was last listed in critical but stable condition.

Shreveport police violentcrimes detectives, along with crime scene investigators, responded to the scene. During a preliminary investigation, information was gathered that indicated Upshaw was present at a large house party held in the 3400 block of Alto Vista Avenue when multiple gunshots rang out.

It is believed a dispute erupted at the home which culminated in gunfire.

It has not been determined at this stage of the investigation what role Upshaw, who was armed with a handgun at the time, may have played in the shooting.

Authorities are working to identify and apprehend the person or persons responsible for this shooting.

Anyone with any information about this crime is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 673-7373 or online at www.lockemup.org.
