Man arrested for siphoning gasoline

A local man who thought he was saving money at the gas pump instead found himself behind bars Saturday night.

Just before midnight Saturday, a Shreveport police officer was working off-duty in the 500 block of East 70th Street when he saw what appeared to be a male suspect lurking around vehicles in the rear of a car dealership.

Upon closer inspection, the patrolman made contact with the individual, who was seen siphoning gas from a vehicle parked on the lot.

The suspect, identified as 50- year-old Michael Harrison, was detained by the officer, and an investigation was launched.

Following his detention, Harrison was transported to Shreveport police headquarters for interviews by Shreveport police property crimes investigators.

Information was gathered suggesting that Harrison entered the fenced property via a hole made in the fence.

Following interviews, authorities subsequently arrested Harrison, charging him with a single count of simple burglary. He was booked into the Shreveport City Jail.
