Shreveport Police Department and Union Pacific Railroad will conduct a joint safety operation this morning.

On Tuesday, April 16, 2013, officers with the department’s Field Services Bureau will team up with officials from Union Pacific Railroad to conduct a railroad crossing safety check known as “Operation Life Saver”.  The safety check will run from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and officers will be proactively addressing crossing violations as well any other violations that would compromise the safety of the motoring public.

This effort was initiated to keep motorists safe and reduce the number of car and train crashes caused by drivers violating traffic laws pertaining to railroad crossings.  Members of our local media are encouraged to come out and see first hand how Union Pacific Railroad and the Shreveport Police Department are working hard to make Shreveport a safer place.

Officers will meet for a brief roll call at 8:00 a.m. at the Union Pacific Railroad’s Hollywood Avenue yard, located on East Jewella Road just off of Hollywood Avenue. Please contact Cpl. Marcus Hines at (318)525-5066 for further information
