Incident at North Desoto handled promptly by DPSO
Sheriff Rodney Arbuckle, in conjunction with Dr. Cade Brumley of the DeSoto Parish School Board, has informed the public of an incident at North DeSoto High School, concerning a student bringing a firearm on school campus.
At about 9:30 a.m. this morning, August 17, 2016, a student notified a teacher at North DeSoto High School that they believed another student was in possession of a weapon on school campus. The information was immediately relayed to the DeSoto Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies who are assigned as School Resource Officers. They took appropriate action based off of the information provided and detained the student. A firearm was located. The Deosot Sheriff's Office wanted to inform the public that the situation was handled in a prompt manner and students or staff were not believed to be in danger.
"This is an unfortunate situation and I'm very pleased with our system's response as well as the continued support of police," said Dr. Cade Brumley, DeSoto Superintendent. "I'm thankful that our staff and students have relationships where information can be shared that leads to the safety of everyone."
"Our top responsibility is the safety of our people and we work year-round on proactive measures to prevent traumatic events in our schools" said Dr. Brumley. "The handling of this situation, without incident, exemplifies why our diligence and training is so important."
