Bossier schools and the United Way of Northwest Louisiana are partnering for their first Day of Service. From 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 24, students, educators, administrators and parents have pledged to pay it forward by improving the community by taking on 15 service projects throughout Bossier and Caddo parishes.

The Shreveport District of the United Methodist Church is hosting the festival worship service to celebrate the work of more than 100 churches across its purview. The service provides an opportunity for churches to ratify their efforts in a unique way, called “worshipful work” by District Superintendent Revered Ken Irby.

The Benton Police Department will be giving away free Project ChildSafe gun locks on Highway 3 next to the Country Junction (Shell Station) in Benton, Thursday, Oct. 1, from 3-6 p.m. Officers will also be demonstrating the proper way to secure a firearm with the gun locks.
