Fire crews were called to the Holiday Inn Express and Suites in the 8000 block of East Texas Street at approximately 3:40 p.m. The first unit arrived on the scene within three minutes and reported flames coming from the northeast corner of the building’s roof.

Back on July 20, Shreveport police patrol officers were called to the 2900 block of Curtis Lane regarding a male victim who was discovered deceased along the roadway. Upon officers’ arrival, it was learned the victim, 23-year -old Ricardo Anderson, had been shot multiple times.

Barron, who was not identified as the suspect at the time, ran off as the victim and a few other customers gave chase. Barron ran to his vehicle in the parking lot and drove away but not before witnesses were able to get a license tag number. That helped detectives develop Barron as the suspect and link him to the crime.

The arrests were not part of a sting but all were involving on-line solicitation. Bill Davis, with the Bossier Sheriff’s Department, said detectives with the sheriff’s office answered online ads on different sites, then meet up with the suspects at a hotel in Bossier that works in part with the sheriff’s dept.

United States District Judge S. Maurice Hicks Jr. presided over the bench trial, which started Monday and ended Wednesday. According to evidence presented at trial, Smith began conversing with a 14- year-old female from Texas over an Internet dating service in June of 2015.

Although the suspect managed to elude capture, it was learned that a portion of man's devious deed was captured on surveillance. The surveillance video was released to the media, which ultimately led to him being identified as 43-year-old Charles Phillips Jr.

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries has delayed a drawdown of Lake Bistineau, originally scheduled for July 25 until Monday, Aug. 15, to provide additional time for recreational use and removal of watercraft in advance of low water conditions.
