Norsworthy presents ‘Mystery in Stone’

PRESS RELEASE

The Norsworthy Art Gallery presents “Mystery in Stone,” a traveling exhibit of Zimbabwean stone sculptures June 8-29.

“Mystery in Stone” is a collective premiere of Zimbabwean artists’ sculptures. These artists have created sculptures for generations that are filled with artistry, heritage and cultural designs from their African region.

The exhibit tours internationally in an effort to promote Zimbabwean art and raise support for the artists, their families and communities, and for the education and care of artists’ family members lost to AIDS.

“This is the first international exhibit that the Norsworthy Gallery has housed. We are very excited to present ‘Mystery in Stone’ to Shreveport-Bossier and feel that the artwork will leave the community in awe,” said Christine Bailey, owner of the Norsworthy Art Gallery.

The Norsworthy Art Gallery is located at 214 Texas St. in Shreveport. Gallery hours are from 2-6 p.m., Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays.

Here’s an interesting thought. Why is it that Louisiana and neighboring state Mississippi are always on the bottom of every national ranking involving virtually every aspect of a state’s quality of life? Yet casino gambling is widespread throughout both states at a level not found any place else in America outside of Las Vegas.

On April 28, citizens of Shreveport face a choice: Fund basic city services or plunge the city into fiscal chaos. It would have been inconceivable 20 years ago that routine tax renewals to fund the fire and police departments and other basic city services would not have the collective support of the city’s business, civic and political leadership.
