Suspect in shooting surrenders to authorities
A suspect is now in police custody following a weekend shooting that injured a local man and sent a Shreveport woman to the hospital.
Just before 9:30 a.m. Sunday June 9, 2013, Shreveport Police officers arrived at the Shreveport City Jail where contact was made with Cornelious Jones. Jones, 32 of Shreveport, reportedly arrived at the Shreveport City Jail this morning where he surrendered to authorities for his alleged role in the Friday night shooting that seriously injured 31 year old Schnelle Speed. Speed, who is now recovering at a local hospital, was apparently shot in the upper body Friday night around 9:30 p.m. as she and a male acquaintance sat inside a car that was parked at an apartment complex located in the 7100 block of Janey Lane. The male accompanying Speed at the time of the shooting, identified as 27 year old Demarco Ferguson, received minor injury after reportedly being struck in the head with a firearm. Both victims are expected to recover.
During the early stages of the investigation, authorities with the Shreveport Police Department's Violent Crimes Unit had gathered information linking Jones to the crime. Cornelious Jones, following his arrival at the jail was interviewed by detectives and now faces charges of Attempted Second Degree Murder and Aggravated Battery.
