Authorities identify victim of fatal crash

Authorities have identified a man who died following a multiple car accident along a stretch of Interstate 220 in west Shreveport Sunday night.

Just after 11:00 p.m. June 30, 2013, Shreveport police responded to a major accident involving a pedestrian on Interstate 220 at Jefferson Paige Road.  Upon officers arrival at the scene, it was learned that an adult white male had been killed after apparently being run over by upwards of five vehicles after he attempted to cross a section of the interstate.  Shreveport Police Crash investigators have identified the man as 51 year old Curtis Bentley of Palestine Texas.  Evidence suggests that Bently died after his 2006 Mazda 3 struck a series of curbs along Jefferson-Paige Road, before veering down an embankment along a stretch of Interstate 220.  Bentley was subsequently struck by passing motorists after exiting his car which came to rest along the shoulder of the interstate.

The crash remains under investigation as authorities continue working to determine the exact cause of the crash as well as identify other drivers involved in the accident.

Here’s an interesting thought. Why is it that Louisiana and neighboring state Mississippi are always on the bottom of every national ranking involving virtually every aspect of a state’s quality of life? Yet casino gambling is widespread throughout both states at a level not found any place else in America outside of Las Vegas.

On April 28, citizens of Shreveport face a choice: Fund basic city services or plunge the city into fiscal chaos. It would have been inconceivable 20 years ago that routine tax renewals to fund the fire and police departments and other basic city services would not have the collective support of the city’s business, civic and political leadership.
