Centenary celebrates 2018 Homecoming Nov. 2-11

Centenary College has expanded its annual Homecoming Weekend activities to a full week, kicking off the 2018 celebration with the Centenary College Choir’s “Rhapsody in View” performances Nov. 3 and 4 and continuing to a weekend of athletic events and tailgating at the Gold Dome.

Other highlights during the week include the new Monday Mania winter sports kickoff, the Alumni Awards Dinner, and three events with acclaimed journalist and Centenary alumna Elaine McArdle ’79.

The classes of 1974 through 1980 will hold a reunion during the first Homecoming weekend, and the classes of 1968 and 2008 will hold milestone 50th and 10th reunions, respectively, during the second weekend.

“The Office of Alumni and Family Relations is looking forward to welcoming alumni, parents, and friends of the College back to campus for our new Homecoming Week,” says Saige Solomon ’05, director of alumni and family relations at Centenary. “The theme this year is ‘Home Sweet Dome,’ and it really captures the welcoming spirit of all the activities we have planned for the week. There’s something to make everyone feel at home at Centenary!” The 2018 Alumni Awards Dinner will be held on Thursday, Nov. 8, at 6 p.m. in the Whited Room of Bynum Commons. This annual event honors alumni who have brought distinction to the College.

Individual tickets for the dinner are $30 and reserved tables seating eight are available for $300. For more information, contact Saige Solomon at ssolomon@centenary.edu.

A full schedule of student and community events, including Monday Mania, a book reading and signing with Elaine McArdle at the Meadows Museum, an alumni panel, and the Alumni Awards Dinner, is available at centenary.edu/homecoming.

The second Homecoming weekend kicks off Friday, Nov. 9, with the Gumbo and Cookie Cook-Off in the Gold Dome parking lot, featuring delicious entries from Centenary student organizations.

Saturday, Nov. 10, includes a full day of events, beginning with the annual Quinq Club Brunch for 50+ year graduates and the TKE Alumni vs. Active football game in the morning. At 11:30 a.m., there will be a ceremonial groundbreaking for the new turf on Mayo Field, and the Homecoming tailgate kicks off immediately afterward in the Gold Dome parking lot.

Afternoon highlights include the Homecoming Court announcement and a reception sponsored by the Centenary Athletic Club along with open houses at the College’s Greek chapters. The day also includes a full slate of athletic contests, with Gents and Ladies swimming taking on Southwestern in the morning and Gents and Ladies basketball welcoming Hardin Simmons to the Gold Dome in the afternoon.

The Homecoming weekend concludes on Sunday, November 11 with “Centenary Sunday” services at Broadmoor United Methodist Church at 8:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. Centenary president Dr. Christopher L. Holoman will preach and the Centenary College Choir will sing at both services. A reception will take place between services at 9:30 a.m. in the church parlor.
