BCFD GOING PINK FOR BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH

The t-shirts are available to the public at just $15 each with half of the proceeds going to Susan G. Komen.

Members of the Bossier City Fire Department will be sporting special duty shirts during the month of October in support of Breast Cancer Awareness month. The shirts are black pullover polos that feature an embroidered pink BCFD patch, pink ribbon on the right sleeve, name and rank in pink and large pink ribbon on the back.

Chief Brad Zagone gave Bossier City firefighters the option to purchase the shirts at their own expense to wear while on duty during October. About two-thirds of the department took Chief Zagone up on his offer and will start wearing the shirts tomorrow.

Meanwhile the Bossier City Fire Department continues sales of its popular pink BCFD Breast Cancer Awareness t-shirts to raise money for the Susan G. Komen Northwest Louisiana affiliate. The shirts feature the breast cancer awareness ribbon with “Bossier City Fire Department” prominently displayed on the back and “BCFD” on the front.  So far the department has sold more than 400 of the

t-shirts and raised approximately $3000 for Susan G. Komen.

The t-shirts are available to the public at just $15 each with half of the proceeds going to Susan G. Komen. The rest of the proceeds cover the cost of the shirts. T-shirt orders will continue until 5 p.m. this Friday, October 4, 2013.  Orders can be placed by calling the Bossier City Fire Department at (318) 741-8700. The black polo duty shirts are not available for sale to the public.

Here’s an interesting thought. Why is it that Louisiana and neighboring state Mississippi are always on the bottom of every national ranking involving virtually every aspect of a state’s quality of life? Yet casino gambling is widespread throughout both states at a level not found any place else in America outside of Las Vegas.

On April 28, citizens of Shreveport face a choice: Fund basic city services or plunge the city into fiscal chaos. It would have been inconceivable 20 years ago that routine tax renewals to fund the fire and police departments and other basic city services would not have the collective support of the city’s business, civic and political leadership.
