Vivian woman dies after being struck by train

A Vivian, La., woman was killed in a pedestrian-train accident last Thursday afternoon, Feb. 20.

Brenda Martin, 50, was cross ing the tracks at a pedestrian crossing in the 500 block of NE Front Street when she was hit by the southbound KCS train just before 3 p.m.

Caddo Sheriff’s Sgt. Glenn Cornell said the engineer sounded the train’s whistle, but Martin did not acknowledge hearing it.

The train, which was carrying coal, was traveling about 30 miles per hour and had 125 cars and four engines.
