Police issue warrant for shooting suspect

A Shreveport man is being sought by police in connection with a shooting that injured a local man earlier this month.

Back on March 1, Shreveport police officers responded to a shooting that took place near the intersection of Burke Street and Parkridge Street in west Shreveport.

When officers arrived on the scene, they discovered the victim, an 18-year-old male, suffering a single gunshot wound to the leg. The victim’s injuries were considered to be non-life-threatening, and he refused medical treatment.

Since the shooting, Shreveport police violent-crimes detectives have gathered evidence linking a suspect, 20-year -old Jamarzia Leonard of the 6400 block of Quillen Boulevard in Shreveport, to the crime.

Investigators have procured a warrant for his arrest. Leonard now faces a single count of aggravated seconddegree battery. Bond in the matter has been set at $100,000.

Anyone with any information regarding Leonard’s whereabouts is asked to call Caddo Crime Stoppers at 673-7373 or on their Web site at www.lockemup. org.

Here’s an interesting thought. Why is it that Louisiana and neighboring state Mississippi are always on the bottom of every national ranking involving virtually every aspect of a state’s quality of life? Yet casino gambling is widespread throughout both states at a level not found any place else in America outside of Las Vegas.

On April 28, citizens of Shreveport face a choice: Fund basic city services or plunge the city into fiscal chaos. It would have been inconceivable 20 years ago that routine tax renewals to fund the fire and police departments and other basic city services would not have the collective support of the city’s business, civic and political leadership.
