Man faces charges following weekend slaying
A local man is dead while another man faces murder charges in the wake of a deadly shooting in west Shreveport Saturday afternoon.
Just after 5:00 p.m. on July 5, 2014, Shreveport Police were called to the 700 block of Central Street relative to a taxi cab which plowed into an apartment complex there. Upon officer's arrival at the scene, it was discovered the driver of the taxi, identified as 38-year old Carlos Jenkins of Shreveport, was pronounced deceased from what appeared to be an apparent gunshot wound to the head. Information gathered at the scene of the crime revealed Jenkin's taxi crashed into building 19 of the Woodlawn Terrace apartment complex while transporting a male passenger in the rear of the vehicle. Immediately following the crash, a male passenger was observed running from the wrecked taxi.
Shreveport Police patrol officers located the fleeing man a short distance away following his collapse from a severely broken leg. Authorities believe the man suffered the injured leg during the crash of the taxi. Police also suspect a handgun located inside a dumpster where the suspect collapsed, may have been used in the crime. The weapon was collected and submitted as evidence. Shreveport Police Violent Crimes investigators along with Crime Scene detectives were called to the scene to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death. Authorities believe 24 year old Reginald Williams was the man who fled from the crashed taxi after shooting Jenkins during a possible attempt to rob him. Williams was transported to university Health Medical Center where he underwent surgery for his injured leg. Williams, who remains in police custody, has been charged with Second Degree Murder in the death of Jenkins and following his release from the hospital, will be booked into the Shreveport City Jail. The investigation into the death remains underway.
