Man arrested for grocery store burglary

A local man is behind bars following his alleged involvement in the burglary of a Shreveport business last month.

Back on July 16, Shreveport police patrol officers were dispatched to the 2400 block of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in reference to a reported business burglary.

When officers arrived at the scene, they contacted the owners of the Kings Grocery, who stated that their business had been burglarized and thousands of dollars had been removed.

Authorities  recovered surveillance video from the store which captured two men forcefully entering the business and taking items.

The video surveillance was submitted to the local media, after which time numerous Crime Stoppers tips were received.

Based on those tips, information was gathered linking 34- year-old Demarcus burns to the crime.

Shreveport police detectives located Burns at a residence in the 1600 block of Hersey D. Wilson Drive, where he was taken into police custody without incident.

Burns was transported to Shreveport police headquarters, where he was interviewed by detectives.

Following those interviews, Burns was subsequently booked into the Shreveport City Jail on charges of simple burglary.
