Woman charged with murder of stabbed man

Wife's friend stabbed victim in the neck.

A local man is dead and a suspect is now in police custody following a fatal stabbing at a west Shreveport home Sunday morning.

Just after 10:30 a.m. on August 17, 2014, Shreveport Police officers were dispatched to a home located in the 3100 block of Cedar Creek Drive relative to domestic trouble.  Upon officer’s arrival at the residence, they located the victim, 40 year old Isaac McClain, in the front yard of the home suffering a single stab wound to the neck. McClain was rushed to University Health Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased a short time later. 

Shreveport Police Violent Crimes detectives along with Crime Scene investigators were notified of the incident and immediately responded to the location. While on scene, authorities gathered information suggesting McClain was present at the Cedar Creek Drive residence he shared with his live in girlfriend, 35 year old Theresa Ascott, when a verbal dispute erupted between the couple.  It is alleged following the dispute, 36 year old Valerie Bass, an acquaintance of Ascott, arrived at the couple's home after being phoned by Ascott requesting Bass to pick her up.  Upon Bass' arrival at the residence, it is reported she too engaged in a verbal confrontation with McClain during which time Bass reportedly produced a knife, stabbing McClain once in the neck.  Bass, of the 6100 block of Bert Kouns Industrial Loop was detained on scene at the home and later transported to Shreveport Police headquarters where she was interviewed by detectives.  Following a series of interviews, Bass was arrested and charged with a single count of Second degree murder.  Bass was booked into the Shreveport City Jai

Initially, his law enforcement background will be questioned by many rank and file at the Shreveport Police Department (SPD). Reportedly, his service as public information officer and then head of the SPD Crime Stoppers program did not entail any supervisory or investigative activities.
