Police investigating shooting incident at airport

Shreveport police detectives are investigating a shooting involving a security officer at the Shreveport Regional Airport., At about 10:12 p.m. Tuesday.

Shreveport police patrol officers were dispatched to the Shreveport Regional Airport in the 5100 block of Hollywood Avenue relative to a shooting involving a member of the airport’s security force.

Almost simultaneously, authorities received a call from a cab driver reporting an airport security officer had shot out one of the tires of his cab.

When officers arrived, they detained the cab driver and contacted airport personnel. Investigators were immediately notified.

Based on preliminary information gathered during their ongoing inquiry, detectives believe there was some sort of dispute between the cab driver and an onduty airport security officer. As the cab driver allegedly tried to leave the facility there, the officer fired one shot from his duty weapon, striking the vehicle’s front passenger side tire.

No one was injured during the incident.

Police crime scene investigators are working to analyze surveillance video recovered from the airport.

The cab driver, who is not being charged with a crime at this time, was released, and the airport employee has been placed on administrative leave with pay while the investigation into this matter continues.
