Shreveport police violent crimes detectives were notified of the incident and immediately launched an investigation. Based on preliminary findings, evidence was obtained suggesting the shooting took place inside the apartment home, where the juvenile was present along with several others.

The case stems from when Shreveport Police Officer D. Jackson responded to an assault and battery complaint at the Fairmont Apartments located in the 700 block of Cotton Street downtown on Aug. 4. Upon arrival, police found a bloody scene, leaving trails of blood from the lobby to the elevator and all the way to an apartment on the fifth floor.

Caddo Sheriff’s Det. Jarred Marshall was put on the case and contacted the teenage victim on Nov. 29, 2017. The victim told Marshall that her father had whipped her with a belt, leaving several bruises. She also told him that he was drunk and angry most of the time about something.
